Eureka signs Spirit of Boom

Spirit of Boom will return to Eureka Thoroughbreds to stand at stud after finally grabbing a Group 1 in the MVRC Wm Reid Stakes (1200m).

The breakthrough came after 14 Group 1 placings including the Oakleigh Plate and Newmarket Hcp behind Lankan Rupee earlier this year.  “He really deserved a Group 1,” trainer Tony Gollan said at Moonee Valley on Friday.  “He was always going to be a stallion and tonight seals the deal.”

Spirit Of Boom (6h Sequalo – Temple Spirit by Special Dane) was bred by Eureka Stud’s Colin and Scott McAlpine and they kept a share in the colt after he sold for $90,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale.

His sire Sequalo was a former star sprinter in his own right winning the G2 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley.  And his older half-brother Temple Of Boom (Piccolo) won a Group 1 in the 2012 The Galaxy at Randwick plus the G2 Gilgai Stakes and G3 Aurie’s Star Hcp down the Flemington straight.

Spirit of Boom showed ability right from the start – winning three times at two – including a five length debut win in the Magic Millions 2YO Prelude.  His other wins on the Gold Coast include the Goldmarket Hcp and Magic Millions Cup.

The quality sprinter will get two more chances to win at the elite level before heading to stud when he contests the $2.50 million T J Smith Stakes at Randwick and Stradbroke Hcp at Eagle Farm.
