Entries for New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run 2YO Sale – the most successful sale of two-year-olds in Australasia – close tomorrow, Friday 10 August.
In an unparalleled level of success, NZ Bloodstock’s Ready to Run 2YO Sale had a record-breaking Sale last year and has forged a reputation as a source of top flight thoroughbreds, with the last three seasons claiming five individual Group 1 winners.
With a reputation for providing well-educated young horses full of potential, combined with the rigorous safeguards NZB has in place to ensure the integrity of this Sale remains paramount, buyer demand continues to grow.
That demand translated into a record Sale last year as the level of success Ready to Run graduates attained, and continue to achieve on the world stage, saw the Sale break new ground in the ring.
Last year’s Sale saw buyers from nine countries from around the world purchase horses from the Karaka ring with over 70% of the Sale’s total aggregate coming from international buyers. The Sale attained a new record turnover of $16.2 million, $2 million more than in 2010 with 29 fewer two-year-olds sold.
The Sale average and median both posted significant increases, and new records. The average rose 29% on 2010 to $71,125 – up 16% on the previous record set in 2007. The all-important sale median reached new heights posting a 40% increase on 2010 and achieving a new Sale record of $45,000.
The Sale also saw a dramatic increase in the level of support from Asia with buyers from Hong Kong and Singapore spending $5.8 million, a 47% increase on 2010.
The Ready to Run Sale has averaged 13 individual stakes winners per season for the last three seasons and 2011/12 saw the Sale’s graduates continue to claim top level races around the world.
Crack three-year-old Sangster provided the perfect season opening for the Sale in October last year when running away with the Group 1 VRC Derby in October. Just over a month later the evergreen Able One made headlines taking his third Group 1 success in the world’s richest 1600 metre contest, the Hong Kong Mile.
Able One received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hong Kong Racing Awards in July in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Hong Kong as well as international racing.
Bolstering the Sale’s success in Hong Kong, Fay Fay claimed the biggest victory of his career when winning one of the country’s most prestigious domestic races, the HK-1 Hong Kong Derby. The Embassy then successfully took the Sale’s season Derby haul to three in April when proving too good in the Perak Derby.
A leading source of Derby contenders, the Ready to Run Sale has claimed no fewer than six Derby races around the world since 2010.
