El Maggiore sires first winner in Tasmania

El Maggiore became the second Tasmanian based stallion in as many days to sire his first winner when Dark Fantastic scored by a long neck in the Boags Premuim Light Plate (1000m) at Devonport on Monday.

Grenville Stud sire My Lad (Southern Halo) sired his first winner when Rayos was successful at Launceston on Sunday.

Dark Fantastic (3g El Maggiore – Show Princess by Umatilla) ploughed through the heavy going to score by a long neck for locally based owner-trainer Leanne Gaffney.

The gelding had shown ability when last in work and was well in the market first-up after a nine month spell.  He had been placed behind Tranquil Lass and Lord Reginald in a strong juvenile event at Launceston last Boxing Day.

His dam Show Princess won a Ballarat maiden by 7 lengths second time out but didn’t run a drum in her remaining 17 starts before going to stud.

El Maggiore is a son of recently deceased Kentucky stallion El Prado (Sadler’s Wells) and stands at Bowthorpe Stud which is situated near Launceston on the South Esk River.  David and Patricianne Cochrane own the Longford based nursery which is also the home of Azevedo (Helissio).
