Cambridge based nursery Linwood Park has announced Ekraar will be based permanently in New Zealand.
The sire of this week’s G1 Auckland Cup winner Shez Sinsational has a permanent home at the new operation set up last year by Mary Fitzpatrick. Ekraar (USA) was initially under the ownership of Shadwell Farm and shuttled from Italy to Stoney Bridge Stud in NZ.
“We are delighted that Ekraar was one of our foundation stallions at Linwood Park last year standing alongside Mr Nancho and Royal Gem,” Fitzpatrick said. “Shez Sinsational has been nothing short of sensational and she is certainly putting him right in the spotlight.”
Shez Sinsational has won three times at Group 1 level and is headed towards the G1 Melbourne Cup. She also holds an entry for the G1 Singapore Cup in May.
Ekraar won the G3 Goodwood Vintage Stakes on debut before a career that spanned five seasons headed by a G1 in the Gran Premio del Jockey Club in Milan.
A son of Red Ransom, he has sired six individual stakes winners including another G1 winning mare in Ekstreme. He has been represented by winners in 12 individual countries and has more than 120 individual winners to his credit.
