Early winner by Mastercraftsman

New Zealand shuttler Mastercraftsman (Ire) sired a winner with his first starter in England on Friday.

Master Carpenter (2c Mastercraftsman – Fringe by In The Wings) scored by more than two lengths in the Knighton Maiden Stakes (1000m) at Leicester.  Although running greenly on debut, he ranged up to the leaders inside the final furlong and then drew clear under Andrea Atzeni.

The winner was bred in Ireland at Newtown Stud and had been passed-in for 25,000 pounds at the Doncaster yearling sale in August 2012.  His dam Fringe is a half-sister to LR Prix Petite Etoile winner Mount Elbrus (Barathea).  Second dam El Jazirah (Kris) is a sister to the dam of Invincible Spirit.

Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer) shuttles from Coolmore Ireland to Windsor Park in NZ.  He was a G1 2YO winner of the Phoenix Stakes and National Stakes and returned to claim the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas and G1 St James’s Palace as a 3YO.

Mastercraftsman’s first (NZ) yearlings were popular at the 2013 NZB Premier Sale with 14 lots making six-figures.  Topping the list at $220,000 was Lot 61, the half-sister to G1 Goodwood Hcp winner Velocitea (Volksraad).
