Eagle swoops at Sandown

Raheen Stud is on a roll with its Magic Millions graduates and Sino Eagle landed the latest win at Sandown on Wednesday.

Sino Eagle (3f Casino Prince – Vermont Eagle by Octagonal) had won on debut at Benalla on February 4 and she doubled up on the Lakeside circuit with a power-packed victory in the Le Pine Funerals Hcp (1400m).

The Peter Moody trained filly was spotting Spirit Of Soul three lengths half-way down the straight but overhauled the leader with an eye-catching finishing burst to score by a long-neck.  “She’s a professional filly,” Moody said.  “And it’s great to see such a happy bunch of owners enjoying the win.”

Sino Eagle is owned by members of the Vermont football and cricket clubs based in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.  The same syndicate also raced her dam Vermont Eagle and Moody trainer her to Terang wins in March and April in 2007.

Sino Eagle was part of the Raheen draft at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  Raheen has entered her yearling half-brother at the Gold Coast QTIS Sale on March 17 & 18.  The colt is by Vinery sire Excites and is catalogued as Lot 284.

Vermont Eagle has a filly foal by Red Element and is back in foal to Raheen’s Group 1 winning stallion Captain Sonador.

Sino Eagle follows Raheen graduate Carmora who is also unbeaten in two starts after a runaway win at Doomben last Saturday.  Trainer Desleigh Forster will prepare the Stromberg Carlson gelding for a campaign aimed at the G1 Queensland Derby.

Forster is in Melbourne with Raheen graduate Adebisi for the G1 Oakleigh Plate this Saturday.  The Shovhog sprinter is heading for a hat-trick after victories in the LR Razor Sharp Quality at Warwick Farm and G3 Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield.

And over in Perth, Tiger Pete will be on trial for black-type sprints when he runs in the Pink’s Steam Clean Hcp (1000m) at Ascot this Saturday.

Tiger Pete (Shovhog) was bred and sold by Raheen for $19,000 at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions and trainer Steve Wolfe has him on course for the LR Bunbury Stakes on March 10.  Raheen studmaster Basil Nolan is preparing a Dreamscape – Tarmons filly (Lot 257) for the QTIS Sale next month.  Tarmons is a half-sister to Tiger Pete’s dam Bligh Bounty.

There are 39 yearlings in Raheen’s consignment for the QTIS Sale including 19 lots by its resident sire Publishing.
