Duelled makes First X1 for Redoute’s Choice

NZ-based stallion Duelled sired his first winner when Shootoff won the Chifley Hcp at Randwick’s Kensington track on Tuesday.  He is trained by Graeme Rogerson who also prepared Duelled to a G2 victory in the MVRC AAMI Vase.

Duelled is the latest son of Redoute’s Choice to sire a winner.   The Arrowfield champion is making an enormous impact as a sire of sires with 11 of his sons now credited with winners.  His Arrowfield based son Not A Single Doubt started the ball rolling and he was joined by Legion (Larneuk) and Stromberg Carlson (Raheen) in 2008-09.

Apart from Duelled, another 7 are off the mark so far this season headed by Champion 2YO sire elect Stratum (Widden) and Snitzel (Arrowfield), Bradbury’s Luck (Glenlogan Park), Al Samer (Emirates Park Victoria), God’s Own (Eliza Park), Keffelstein (Spring Valley) and Break The Vault (Oaklands).

Besides his Group 2 victory at Moonee Valley, Duelled was also G1 placed in the AJC Spring Champion Stakes and Gloaming Stakes and the VRC Victoria Derby.  Rogerson and his wife Debbie stand him at Dormelllo with Denise Howell.  He purchased the entire as a foundation sire for the Hamilton-based property.

Shootoff (2g Duelled – Athenri by Zabeel) was racing for third time yesterday and was comfortable in the Heavy 7 surface to score by three-quarters of a length.  Rogerson’s assistant Roger Elliott believes the gelding can keep developing into a black-type performer at the upcoming carnivals.  “He’s a lovely horse,” Elliott told the media yesterday.  “I think he could make a Derby horse in the spring.”

Duelled bowed out of racing when runner-up to Benicio in the 2004 Victoria Derby.  He is a three-quarter brother to Nothin’ Leica Dane (Danehill) and stands for a $6,000 (+ gst) fee at Dormello.

Shootoff is a younger half-brother to Tanalised (Keeper) who has won three races up to a mile in New Zealand.  Their dam Athenri won at Timaru over 2100m before retiring after just four starts for Matamata trainer Michael Walker.  The mare has thrown another Keeper winner named Cinnie and her latest foal is a yearling colt by Duelled.

WALNARING STUD sire Marmottan is another first-season sire ready to add his name to the list of Redoute’s Choice winner-getters.  He is already credited with a black-type performer courtesy of the Rick Worthington trained colt Corvidae.

Corvidae (2c Marmottan – Jayjaye by Deputy Governor) was runner-up in the Listed Canonbury Stakes behind Hinchinbrook in February.  He went into the Randwick feature on the back of a close second to Toorak Toff at Sandown.  The form out of that race stacks up as the winner went to capture the SAJC Magic Millions 2yo Classic and G2 The Jansz at Morphettville.
