Bluegrass Bloodstock (FBAA) agent Lenny Russo completed a Sydney – Melbourne double on Saturday when Mr Sneaky won the No Fuss Events Hire Hcp (1200m) at Caulfield.

Mr Sneaky (High Chaparral) races for a syndicate headed by Dream Thoroughbreds manager Dave Azzopardi.  He was coming off a Flemington victory in March and will head interstate for the Scone carnival in a fortnight.

“He was my top pick at the 2015 Melbourne Premier yearling sale,” Russo recalled.  “He ticked all the boxes in our selection criteria and could turn out to be top-class.”

The 3yo gelding cost $120,000 from Erinvale Thoroughbreds at Oaklands.  His dam Danesty (Danehill) is a stakes-placed sister to G1 Brisbane Cup winner Danestorm.

Mr Sneaky has the $400,000 Scone Guineas (1400m) in his sights on May 13 and trainers Lee & Anthony Freedman will then confer with connections to decide whether to take him further north to Eagle Farm.

Suitable races at the Brisbane winter carnival include the G3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) on May 27 and G2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) on June 10.

Moss ‘N’ Dale (NZ) claimed the first-leg of the Bluegrass Bloodstock double at Randwick last Saturday.  It was his 6th win in 12 starts for earnings over $150,000.

“It was a huge thrill seeing the Bluegrass colours winning in Sydney,” the Moonee Valley-based agent said.  “We bred him in New Zealand and Pete Gelagotis has done a great job since he arrived at Moe.”

Moss ‘N’ Dale is by Castledale (USA) who stood at Te Runga Stud in Pukekohe where Russo spent time learning the ropes in New Zealand.  His dam Hot ‘N’ Moss (Strategic Prince) won twice for Russo and she’s from a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Moss Downs (Kelt Capital Stakes & Easter Hcp).

“Hot ‘n’ Moss always had a great turn of foot but breathing issues and a bad joint cut her career short,” Russo added.  “Her first foal was Moss ‘n’ Dale and he’s a super honest horse who could have a big race in him.”

Bluegrass and Gelagotis linked to buy yearlings by Reward For Effort ($65,000) and Testa Rossa ($25,000) at the Melbourne Premier in March.
