Dream colt for Rachel

Rachel Alexandra has foaled a Curlin colt at Stonestreet Farm in Kentucky.  Emblazoned with a white star, the alert colt bears a striking resemblance to his dam.

Stonestreet manager Gary Megibben reports all is well with both mare and foal.  “Rachel is a natural mother,” he said.  “She took to the colt immediately.”

Curlin claimed Horse of the Year honours in 2007 and 2008 and Rachel Alexandra won it in 2009.  That year, she became the first filly in 85 years to win the G1 Preakness and the first filly to ever win the G1 Woodward Stakes.

Curlin and Rachel were both raced by the late Jess Jackson.  “The family looks forward to watching this colt develop and carry the Stonestreet silks,” Jackson’s wife Barbara Banke said.  “For me and my children, this colt represents a dream that Jess always worked towards – to raise and race the best.”

Curlin stands at Lane’s End Farm.  Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d’Oro) will now visit Darley Kentucky to be bred back to Bernardini.
