Dr Doute’s retires to Ridgeview Park

Dr Doute’s is the latest son of super-sire Redoute’s Choice to stand at stud.  He has been retired to Ridgeview Park in Cooma and is available at a $4,400 service fee.

Dr Doute’s (6h Redoute’s Choice – No Limit by Dr. Grace) was trained by Mark Kavanagh and was unbeaten as a two year-old at Morphettville and Moonee Valley.

Resuming as a spring three year-old, he won the VRC Lord Dudley Hcp (1430m) at Flemington in a performance that really impressed his connections.

“He’s a very capable galloper,” winning jockey Michael Rodd said after the colt overcame problems to score by a nose.  “He grabbed the bridle and the saddle went forward.  It was a pretty game effort under the circumstances.”

Kavanagh bought Dr Doute’s for $150,000 at the Adelaide Magic Millions.  The colt return to headquarters on the opening day of the Melbourne Cup carnival to win the LR Carbine Club Stakes but Kavanagh tipped him out immediately for the autumn carnival.

“We looked after him because he needed time,” Kavanagh explained.  “He didn’t do anything wrong but just wasn’t mentally as forward as a horse like Whobegotyou.”

Dr Doute’s won the LR City of Adelaide Stakes at Morphettville and then finished a half-length second to Kiwi stayer Harris Tweed in the G2 Tulloch Stakes at Rosehill.

Kavanagh believed the colt was all set to make an impact at the 2009 spring carnival.  He finished third to Raheeb and Rightfully Yours in the LR Herald Sun Stakes at Flemington but was then the victim of a cruel twist of fate.

A flying horseshoe nearly cost him the sight in one eye.  “It was a bad injury and he nearly lost the eye,” Kavanagh recalled.  “He was in and out of the vet clinic for two months before it was finally fixed.”

He returned to win at Morphettville and was also runner-up to Conservatorium in the LR Manihi Classic in March before Kavanagh called a halt to his career.

The Redoute’s Choice branch of the Danehill sireline is surging forward with Stratum, Not A Single Doubt and Snitzel leading the charge.

Arrowfield’s champion sire got Dr Doute’s from Sydney mare No Limit who won 8 races from 1000m to 1800m.  She was also stakes placed in the LR Dark Jewel Classic at Scone.
