Double figures for Alfred Nobel

Lynward Park’s Alfred Nobel sent his first-crop winner-count into double figures when Birkdale Boy prevailed in the App Store Hcp (1400m) at Lingfield on Wednesday.

Birkdale Boy (3g Alfred Nobel – Yaky Romani by Victory Note) was unplaced in three starts during a summer campaign last year but put the writing on the wall with a first-up second at Wolverhampton last month.

Alfred Nobel’s 10th individual winner had been catalogued for the Tattersalls Winter Sale on February 5 but was withdrawn by Musley Bank trainer Richard Fahey.  The gelding is a half-brother to Italian winners Yaky Mahora (Oratorio) and Rock Diamond (Rock of Gibraltar).

Birkdale Boy was initially sold as a foal for 22,000gns at the Tattersalls November Sale in 2012.  His dam Yaky Romani is a half-sister to Al Qasi (Elnadim) who was a Group 3 winner of the Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh.

Alfred Nobel (Danehill Dancer) shuttled from Coolmore Stud in Ireland to Lynward Park from 2011 to 2013 before having a break from southern hemisphere duties last year.

His first-crop Sunspeed younger Dickey was placed in the Magic Million Perth 2YO Classic on Saturday and 8 of his second-crop found new homes at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale earlier this week.

Aquanita trainer Simon Miller paid top price of $80,000 for the colt from Magical Memories (Lot 54).  He was offered by Dawson Stud and is a half-brother to Perth stakes performer Black Magic Miss.
