Deluxe due in Australia

Reports out of South Africa indicate Group 1 winning sprinter Delago Deluxe will stand at Blue Gum Farm in Victoria.

Delago Deluxe (4h Encosta de Lago – Succeeding by Flying Spur) was an unbeaten juvenile winning the G3 Protea Stakes, G2 South African Nursery and G1 Gold Medallion in 2011.

Bred and sold by Baramul Stud for $550,000 at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions, Delago Deluxe was trained by Charles Laird for his major client Markus Jooste.  He added another G1 in the Golden Horse Casino Sprint earlier this year.

Jooste’s racing manager Derek Brugman told Pretoria News a deal was being negotiated that could potentially see the horse leaving South Africa in September.

Delago Deluxe (Aus) is from a winning daughter of outstanding broodmare Staging.  The second dam has also foaled the G1 winners Duporth (Red Ransom), Excites (Danewin) and G2 winner Tickets (Redoute’s Choice).

Coolmore originally stood his sire Encosta de Lago at Blue Gum before repatriating him to the Hunter Valley.

Blue Gum imported South African star Argonaut in 2009 with the intention of standing him at its Euroa nursery.  The Western Winter colt had won the G1 Golden Horseshoe but needed local black-type to appeal to Australian breeders.

Argonaut was in work with Lee Freedman but came down with a lung infection and was sent home without racing here.  Blue Gum currently stands Canford Cliffs, Turffontein, Red Arrow and Elvstroem.
