Courageous filly Ayusan completed a hat-trick of G1 Japanese 1000 Guineas victories for her sire Deep Impact on Sunday.
Ayusan (3f Deep Impact – Buy The Cat by Storm Cat) got up off the canvas to score a narrow victory after being headed by Red Oval (Deep Impact) in the straight. She is a half-sister to Japanese Listed winner Saki To Me (Fusaichi Pegasus).
Their dam Buy The Cat is a daughter of G1 Top Flight Handicap winner Buy The Firm. Shimokobe Farm paid $60,000 for Buy The Cat at the 2010 Keeneland November Sale.
Deep Impact has only had three crops of three-year-olds to the races. His previous Oka Sho winners were Marcellina in 2011 and champion filly Gentildonna who also led home a Deep Impact quinella from Verxina in 2012.
Shadai Stud’s champion son of Sunday Silence has now sired 7 Group 1 winners – Deep Brillante, Joie De Vivre, Real Impact, Beauty Parlour as well as the three Oka Sho winners Gentildonna, Marcellina and Ayusan.
Deep Impact was a two-time Japanese Horse of the Year and is rapidly establishing himself as a worthy heir to his own sire. He initially stood for the equivalent of AUD 81,835 and that was raised to AUD 128,400 in 2012, however, the cost of his services weren’t advertised this year.
As befitting his star status, Deep Impact has his own uniformed security guard and, during the summer months, hundreds of fans visit him every day on the northern island of Hokkaido.
