Death of Shadai Champion

Japanese champion sire Manhattan Cafe has died aged 17 at Shadai Stallion Station.

Bred at Shadai, he won five stakes races in 11 starts including the G1 Tenno Sho Spring (beating Jungle Pocket), Kikuka Sho and Arima Kinen

Manhattan Cafe (Sunday Silence -Subtle Change by Law Society) retired to stud after finishing down the track behind Marienbard in the 2002 Arc de Triomphe. He covered 13 books in Hokkaido and was Japan’s Champion sire in 2009.

Notable progeny among his 600 plus winners were Hiruno D’Amour (G1 Tenno Sho Spring), Jo Cappuccino (G1 NHK Mile Cup) and Red Desire (G1 Shuka Sho).
