A Tyreel Stud filly continued Fastnet Rock’s domination at the Gold Coast Magic Millions on Saturday night.
Trainer Chris Waller outbid Peter Moody with a successful $500,000 bid for the filly from the stakes performed mare Gold Chant. Tyreel offered her on behalf of Victoria’s Makybe operation.
Waller won the Magic Millions Cup with Triple Elegance earlier in the day and he was delighted to snare the prized filly. “She’s a very, very nice horse,” he said. “She’s a Fastnet Rock over a speed mare and Starspangledbanner sticks out in her pedigree.”
Waller also signed for the Redoute’s Choice colt from I Got Chills for $400,000. A Redoute’s Choice colt out of Encosta de Lago mare Hades was purchased by Ingordo Bloodstock for $460,000.
Saturday’s Day 4 trade wrapped up the select sessions of the sale and helped push turnover to $67.67 million – well up on last year’s figure of $62.57 million. The average price of $136,172 also had a healthy increase when compared to the $127,175 achieved twelve months ago.
The clearance rate maintained its rise to 83%. “It’s been an extremely strong sale,” Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox said. “It was pleasing to see the clearance rate climb again.”
The leading buyer for the sale was the powerful partnership of Gai Waterhouse and James Harron – signing for 27 yearlings at a spend of over $6 million.
Another 21 lots heading to the Waterhouse stable will be the outstanding selection of purchases from Denise Martin of Star Thoroughbreds. Martin was second on the buyers’ table with an outlay of over $2 million.
