Day 4 Arqana December Sale – Record aggregate at Deauville

The majority of the Day 4 catalogue at the Arqana December Sale was destined for the National Hunt sector.  Turnover reached 843,000 euros at an average of 9,928 euros and the clearance rate was 72%.

Champion mare Princesse D’anjou (Nononito) topped Tuesday’s session when selling to her former trainer François-Marie Cottin for 60,000 euros.  The three-time Group 1 winning chaser was sold in foal to leading NH sire Saint des Saints.

Baraka Du Berlais (Bonnet Rouge) was next best at 52,000 euros.  She was offered in foal to Soldier of Fortune and is set to stay in France.  She was a Listed winner of the Prix d’Iena.

“The overall results of the four days are extremely pleasing, especially as we have achieved a new record aggregate of 20.64 million euros,” Arqana President Eric Hoyeau said.  “The 79% clearance rate is also very positive and underlined the constant activity throughout the sale.

“The upper end of the market has been very strong whether it be for mares or foals, showing a bigger demand than offered.  It is particularly pleasing to see how many international buyers were here, both new and old faces.”

The overall average was up 10% to 32,646 euros.
