Day 3 Ocala Sale average up 8%

Gainesway sire Whywhywhy topped Day 3 of the Ocala Breeders’ 2YO Sale in Florida on Wednesday.  His filly from Canadian stakes performer Vermilion Sea (Boundary) realised $150,000.

Whywhywhy was a G1 winner of the 2002 Futurity Stakes at Belmont and his first crop are current five year-olds.  His Ocala filly posted the fastest 600m workout of 32.80s prior to the auction.  She was purchased by Kentucky-based Silverton Hill Stud after initially going through the sale ring for $37,000 at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale.

Bred in Illinois, the Whywhywhy filly is a half sister to the winners by Yonaguska and Malibu Moon.  Their dam Vermilion Sea was runner-up in the 1999 Lassie Handicap (LR) at Hastings Park in Vancouver.

The Day 3 average of $27,305 increased 8.8% from last year’s corresponding session.  The clearance rate was 72%.  The fourth and final session of the sale is scheduled for Thursday, 22 April.
