An $80,000 Sequalo colt topped Day 2 of the Magic Millions QTIS yearling sale at the Gold Coast on Monday.
On a day when the overall clearance rate improved to 71%, the Lyndhurst Stud Farm colt prepared colt made top dollar to the bid of Toowoomba horseman Tony Sears. The youngster is a brother to city winner Inventory and three quarter brother to stakes winner Holding.
Trainer John Morrisey picked up the day’s top selling filly, a daughter of leading juvenile sire Real Saga, for $60,000. She is the first foal of Galileo mare Tequilakoko who descends from Magic Millions Classic winner Our Fiction.
Trade for the two-day auction went past $6.20 million on 293 lots. The average price of $21,193 was marginally down on 2012.
“It’s remarkable to finish the sale with a clearance of 71%, although that is still unsatisfactory,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox stated. “All the traditional buyers participated and there was some new blood from interstate and overseas.”
“The results tell us that there is a lack of confidence in the local industry. I commend the vendors that met the market because I’m sure some of the prices weren’t palatable.
“The Queensland industry has some soul searching ahead, however, the good thing is that Queensland Racing is putting the fundamentals together to get racing heading in the right direction.”
