Day 1 Perth Magic Millions – Positive trade at Belmont Park

An impeccably bred daughter of War Chant topped Day 1 of the Perth Magic Millions at Belmont Park on Tuesday.

Catalogued as Lot 120, she was snapped up by Yarradale Stud for $250,000 after a spirited bidding battle.  Three different parties bid after the price passed $200,000 but it was Yarradale owner Ron Sayers who saw off the others when the hammer fell.

Presented by Dawson Stud, the filly is a half sister to 7 winners from as many runners for the stakes winning Bletchley Park mare Most Secret.  Her siblings include Group 1 winner Covertly and fellow stakes winners So Secret and Secret Link.

Next on the leader-board was the Oratorio half sister to WA Guineas winner Moccasin Bend, at $230,000.  She was purchased by Glen Harvey in association with Paul Moroney and local trainer Adam Durrant.

Turnover from $7.54 million to $9.14 million and the average rose marginally from $57,592 to $58,242.  The median remained at $45,000 and the clearance rate improved 6 points to a healthy 82%.

“It has been a very good sale and there’s an incredibly positive vibe on the grounds,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox reported.  “We’ve had an exceptional buying bench on hand and having five horses sell for $200,000 or more, as opposed to just one last year, was a real highlight.”

Magic Millions Perth Manager David Houston said the first local crop of War Chant were hotly sought after during the day.

“The foresight of Yarradale Stud and Geisel Park Stud to invest in a stallion of the profile of War Chant captured the imagination of the Western Australian thoroughbred industry.”

Day Two of the Perth Yearling Sale will be held from 11am (WA time) on Wednesday.
