More Than Ready starred on Day 1 of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale with a colt that made the equivalent of AUD 496,600.
The Vinery champion’s colt attracted numerous potential buyers after a blistering gallop on Tuesday morning. Beating them all was agent Anthony Stroud with a bid of 320,000gns. “He will stay in Britain,” Stroud said at Newmarket. “He was one of quickest we timed and he’s by a solid stallion who is doing particularly well.”
The session-topper is out of In Excess mare Mary Ellise and was pin-hooked by John Egan of Friarstown Bloodstock for $90,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale.
Next on the leader-board was another Friarstown Bloodstock colt by Arch that made 270,000gns. Arch is a son of Kris S and his colt sold for $250,000 as a yearling. He is out of the Storm Cat mare Touch Of Truth who hails from the family Media Puzzle and Refuse To Bend.
Day 1 of the Craven 2YO Sale saw trade reach 4,007,000 guineas, at an average of 78,569 guineas and a median of 52,000 guineas. Turnover was up 17% compared with the opening session last year, while the average rose 24% and the median dropped by 5%.
