Darley sires claim 2YO double

Darley topped the Australian 2YO titles in 2011-12 with Lonhro and Exceed And Excel finishing on top of the prizemoney and winner categories respectively.

Lonhro sired unbeaten colt Pierro to claim the 2YO premiership to go with his General Sires award in 2010-11.

A Woodlands homebred, Lonhro sired 8 juvenile winners of 13 races for earnings of $3.41 million.  He defeated Snitzel ($2.87m), Fastnet Rock ($2.54m), More Than Ready ($2.23m) and Redoute’s Choice ($1.11m).

Exceed And Excel finished sixth on the prizemoney ladder but he was a runaway winner in the other category siring 21 winners of 27 races.  He has now won both titles three years running.

Darley sire Commands also successfully defended his Australian winners’ title in 2011-12.  He finished on top with 137 individual winners to defeat Encosta de Lago and Redoute’s Choice on 131.

Commands created new figures last season with 155 individual winners.  That smashed the previous record of 147 held by Encosta de Lago.
