Darley mare tops snowbound Doncaster Sale

Doncaster Bloodstock’s snowbound December Sale went ahead on Tuesday, however, the adverse conditions meant the auction was more notable for the lots that didn’t sell rather than those that did.

Darley mare Tropical Breeze (Kris) topped the sale with a PPT to Dubawi.  She was knocked down to agent Stephen Hillen for 31,000 pounds which was a bargain considering Darley has increased Dubawi’s fee to 55,000 pounds for 2011.

“It took me forever to get to Doncaster because the A1 was closed,” Hillen said.  “We really just bought her for the Dubawi cover and I think the foal will be sold next year.”

County Durham-based owners Martin and Sandy Pearson paid 26,000 pounds for three-year-old colt Mass Rally (Kheleyf) who won at Kempton and Wolverhampton this time last year for trainer John Gosden.
