Rangal Park stallion Danerich sired his 6th stakes winner at Oakbank on Saturday and he went within a nose of notching a Group 1 first at Randwick on Monday.
Promising mare Streetcar Isabelle continued David Jolly’s domination of the LR Oakbank Stakes (1100m) with a front-running three-length victory over the favourite Riziz. The Goolwa trainer has now prepared 5 of the last 8 winners of the feature sprint.
“It’s tough race but I’ve won it a couple of times with horses on the minimum on their way through to open class,” Jolly said. “I was happy with the way she trialled on Tuesday and she handles the downhill tracks alright.”
Streetcar Isabelle (4m Danerich – Stellar Fille by Filante) was bred by Caithness Farm’s Sean Dingwall and is a half-sister to four “Streetcar” winners including G3 McKay Stakes winner Streetcar Magic (Blevic).
Danerich sprinter Lord Of The Sky looked home in the G1 T J Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Easter Monday but was collared right on the line by Chautauqua. “I couldn’t believe how well he was travelling up the rise,” jockey Damien Oliver said. “It was super run and it took a quality horse to beat him.”
Lord Of The Sky is the chief earner for his sire and the best of his 5 wins has been at Group 3 level in the 2014 Monash Stakes at Caulfield. “I had a hunch he would handle heavy ground and it was almost a fairytale,” Cranbourne trainer Robbie Laing lamented. “When he broke clear I was saying ‘Go boy, go’ but he just got ambushed at the end.”
The Easter weekend results helped Danerich leapfrog Statue Of Liberty, God’s Own, Keep The Faith, Artie Schiller and Turffontein into the Top 10 on the Victorian premiership. The Rangal Park resident has sired 38 winners of 61 races and $1.79 million in prizemoney.
