Danehill Dancer colt tops Tattersalls 2YO Sale

A Danehill Dancer colt topped proceedings on Day 1 of the Tattersalls Craven 2YO Sale at 170,000 guineas.

Out of the Barathea mare Oshiponga, the colt was consigned by Lynn Lodge Stud.  He is a half-brother to G2 winner Hatta Fort and was knocked down to Ross Doyle who saw off trainer Kevin Ryan.  The colt was purchased at the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale for 52,000gns.

All up, 54 lots sold for 3.43 million guineas at an average of 63,519gns which was down from 74,475gns last year.  The median of 54,500gns dipped from 60,000gns in 2011.

Second highest price on Wednesday came for the Oasis Dream colt out of the Red Ransom mare Matroshka that made 160,000gns.  The Hillwood Stud consigned colt is from the family of Invincible Spirit and was bought by Blandford Bloodstock on behalf of Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Sultan.

“He is a gorgeous horse, and I love the stallion,” Blandford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown said.  “He did a superb breeze and will go to trainer David Simcock.”

Local agent Dwayne Woods signed for a Sakhee’s Secret Colt out of the Compton Place mare Queensgate at 150,000gns on behalf of his Hong Kong based brother Sean Woods.  The colt initially went through the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 50,000gns.

The Tattersalls Craven Sale continues on Thursday evening.
