Cream rises for French Vanilla

Sunspeed mare French Vanilla goes together with Mungrup stallions like peaches and cream.

French Vanilla foaled her third winner from three to race when Marchand scored in a soft debut at Ascot on Wednesday.

The mare only raced twice and was retired after winning a York maiden in May 2005 for part-owner and breeder Lex Piper.  She has already foaled the city winners Frenchman (McFlirt) and Rouge Dior (Stormy’s Son).

Marchand (3g Oratorio – French Vanilla by General Monash) completed a running double for Oratorio (Aus) in the Crown Perth Hcp (1000m) at Ascot following the win of honest galloper Lord Balthazar.  “He’s a good horse,” trainer Robert Harvey jnr said.  “He was in a nice possie today and it was pretty soft in the end.

“The mare has been very good and I reckon Marchand will go a fair way.  We backed off and gave him plenty of time last year.  Now we’re laughing.”

French Vanilla is from a successful Newhaven Park family and she has an unraced 2yo gelding named Tarlaquin (McFlirt).  There’s a filly on the ground by Due Sasso and the mare is back in foal to McFlirt.

Oratorio (Stravinsky) retired to Mungrup Stud in 2005 and was priced at WA high of $27,500 (inc gst) last year.
