Crafty winner set for Toorak Hcp

Exciting spring prospect Spacecraft reunited Damien Oliver and Perth owner Peter Caporn at Moonee Valley on Saturday.  Spacecraft was wide all the way but had lengths on his rivals in the AJS Corporation Hcp over 1500m.

Mick Price will set the promising gelding for the G1 Toorak Hcp next month.  The Caulfield trainer has won his home track’s feature mile twice in the last five years with Alamosa and Red Dazzler.

Oliver and Caporn go way back.  They combined to win the Kalgoorlie Hannans Hcp with Star Shot in September 1993 and, weight permitting, will team up again in the Toorak.

Spacecraft was an $85,000 buy at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.  Caporn and his wife Kerry share ownership with Barry and Jan McRostie.  “I’ve got a good opinion of him,” Price said.  “He won the Penny Edition at weight-for-age in Adelaide last month and the Moonee Valley win will help him get off the minimum in handicaps.”

Spacecraft (4h Galileo – Demanding by Octagonal) is a younger half-brother to the Perth winners Demands Attention (Favorite Trick), Cause For Demand (Giant’s Causeway) and Phenomenons (Giant’s Causeway).

Their dam Demanding is owned by Racetree’s Kevin Dixon and she has a 2yo filly by Hotel Grand, a yearling filly by Rock Of Gibraltar and she foaled a colt by Fastnet Rock on September 3.
