Crack Miler Up for Doncaster

Mossman has taken a back-seat on the Vinery roster after 18 books in the Hunter Valley but there’s no stopping him in the black-type department.

His rising miler Crack Me Up accelerated to a last-start victory in the Liverpool City Cup Gr.3 at Randwick and he can continue to raise the bar for new trainer Bjorn Baker.

After incurring a 1kg penalty, he firmed into $21 for the Doncaster Mile Gr.1 on April 7.

Winning jockey Jason Collett declared he was never going to get beaten last Saturday.  “The speed was good early and he just pulled his way into the race.  It was fairly soft as a stepping stone to the Doncaster.

“He looks a million dollars and will be one to look out for getting up to the mile.”

The Vinery veteran sired Crack Me Up from Dark Jewel Classic-LR winner Chuckle (Danehill).  She also foaled Mossman’s international sprinter Hoofit (NZ Bonecrusher Stakes LR & Keeneland Phoenix Stakes Gr.3).

He was a $60,000 buy at the 2015 Gold Coast Magic Millions for a syndicate managed by Mark and Robert McLean.  There’s already $603,000 in the bank and the Doncaster is worth $3 million!

Mossman has more black-type on the horizon in Hong Kong with record-breaking sprinter Ivictory.

The Aussie import ran the fastest 1200m ever seen at Happy Valley on Wednesday evening clocking 1.08.52s in the Flame Tree Hcp.  It bettered the old mark set by Tiger Prawn way back in 2007.

Ivictory couldn’t have been more impressive under a motionless Joao Moreira.  It improved his record to 6 wins in 7 starts for trainer John Size and owners Michael & Henry Lee.

“There isn’t much I can add – he does all the talking at the moment,” Size said.  “He keeps coming to the races and winning and keeps showing there’s another one to come as well.”

A near-fore cannon injury had kept Ivictory sidelined for seven months but Size believes it was a blessing.  “Giving them a good break like that isn’t something you normally get the chance to do with a young progressive horse but it was forced on him and it looks like he has really benefited.

“I’m not sure where he will go next.  That will depend on the handicapper, the horse and the program.”

Ivictory (4g Mossman – Inca Lagoon by Hussonet) won a Cranbourne trial in September 2016 before relocating to Hong Kong.  He was purchased by Price Bloodstock for $80,000 at the 2015 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Descending from a family nurtured by Geoff and Beryl White, his close relations include Yippyio (Queensland Derby Gr.1) and Iglesia (Silver Slipper Stakes Gr.2)

Mossman had a sole entrant at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale this week and he’s also destined for a career in Hong Kong after being purchased by Price Bloodstock for $230,000.  The colt from Flying Gigi (Lot 391) is a brother to Macau stakes performer Brave Rhino.
