Cora Lynn leads NZB Southern Filly Series

Racing at Riccarton this Saturday will see a full field of talented fillies contest Listed NZ Bloodstock Insurance Stakes over 1600m.

It’s the third of four legs that comprise the NZ Bloodstock’s Southern Filly of the Year Series.  Cora Lynn (Golan) and Kasumi (Shinko King) are currently tied for the lead on seven points.

Cora Lynn will get the chance to extend her lead on Saturday.  The Mandy & Matt Brown trained filly goes into the race on the back of a powerful victory in the Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes (1400m) at Wingatui.

Her rivals are headed by the Graeme & Debbie Rogerson trained filly Abeautifulred (Handsome Ransom).  She was a last start third against older mares in the G3 Cuddle Stakes (1600m) at Trentham.

The Brian & Shane Anderton trained Ortem Fire (Gallant Guru) looked home in the Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes last start before being run down by Cora Lynn.  That effort earned her three points and a share of second place in the series.

New Zealand’s leading trainer John Sargent will have two runners in the race headlined by Orutan (Pins).  She was impressive last start winner at Riccarton while stablemate Sometime Later (Postponed) was a close second at Riccarton last month.

Trainers John & Karen Parsons have four runners headed by Locket (Keeper) and Asavant (Zabeel).  The latter contested the Group 1 NZ Oaks at her last start.  Stablemates Arietta (Falkirk) and Semper Plus (Howbaddouwantit) are also engaged.  Arietta ran a good third in the Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes two starts back.

Jason Bridgman will saddle two runners – Pussy O’Reilly (O’Reilly) and Viana (Volksraad).  Pussy O’Reilly is a sister to G2 winner Pussy Willow and comes back in distance after contesting the G2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m) and Listed Sunline Vase (2100m) at her last two starts.

The rest of the field is made up of Are You Devious (Captain Rio), Passilente (More Than Ready), Kerrytown Lady (Shinko King), Miss Construe (Manton), Sapling (Pins), Sucre (Ishiguru) and Yazoom (Yamanin Vital).

The Listed $50,000 NZ Bloodstock Insurance Stakes will be held at Riccarton on Saturday at 3.46pm (NZ time).  The winner will earn receive 7 points, second place 3 points and third 1 point.
