Coolmore Stud farewells Piccadilly Circus

Piccadilly Circus, the dam Fastnet Rock, has died at Coolmore Stud shortly after foaling a colt by Declaration Of War.

“Gone but never forgotten,” Coolmore tweeted on Friday.  “What an amazing mare…Rest in Peace.”

The 20 year-old daughter of Royal Academy was purchased by James Bester for $180,000 at the 1997 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  Trained by Lee Freedman, she won the LR Debutante Stakes on debut and went on to win the G3 VATC Blue Diamond Prelude and was third in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Retired in 1999, she produced Fastnet Rock in her third year at stud.  Since then, physical issues hampered her stud career with just three live foals since 2007.

Her 5yo gelding Olympic Flag (Encosta De Lago) won a Newcastle maiden in 11 starts and her 2yo filly by Uncle Mo was retained by Coolmore and sent to Freedman.
