Coolmore sires dominate Day 2 at Great Southern Sale

Fillies by Coolmore sires Fastnet Rock and Encosta de Lago topped Day 2 of the Inglis Great Southern Sale on Wednesday.  Both foals were offered by Cathy Hains of Burnewang North Pastoral.

Fastnet Rock’s daughter from USA stakes winner Chelsey’s Image topped the leader-board at $145,000.  She was purchased by Steve Brem.  The Encosta de Lago out of Les Ry Leigh was next best when selling to Belmont Bloodstock for $130,000.

Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock finished the weanling section as the leading individual buyer signing for five lots for $204,000 across Tuesday and Wednesday.

Paul Willetts added another three weanlings to his haul on Wednesday, taking his total spend to $167,000 for six lots over the last two days.

New Zealand operations Regal Farm and Hallmark Stud also had a successful few days, purchasing four weanlings for $116,000 and three weanlings for $80,000 respectively.

The two days of foal trade at Oaklands Junction reached $2.56 million.  The average of $9,025 was down 11% from the overall figures from last year’s sale.

The 2012 Great Southern Sale moves onto broodmares and mixed bloodstock in the coming two days, May 24 and 25.
