Cooke on fire with Magic Millions double

Renowned West Australian horsewoman Quona Cooke notched a career first at Belmont on Wednesday when she saddled up a running double with Howbadisthat and Sound System.

Cooke is based at Carinya Park in Upper Swan and is best known for preparing young horses for the South East Asian market.  She is a long time client of Magic Millions and purchased both winners from Magic Millions yearling sales.

Howbadisthat is by Swettenham Stud sire Dash for Cash and he was a $40,000 buy from Three Bridges at the 2008 Adelaide Sale.  The gelding came with a strong burst in the straight to win the Willoughby Maiden by a length.  “Howbadisthat has had his share of problems and I’ve had to be very patient with him,” Cooke explained.  “He’s got a bit of a future and should be winning again soon.”

Promising three-year-old Sound System made it back to back city wins for the stable when he won the Westspeed Hcp yesterday.  He is a son of Raheen Stud sire Stromberg Carlson and was purchased for just $10,000 from Raheen’s consignment at the 2009 Magic Millions QTIS 600 Sale.

“I might head to a Saturday race with him now,” Cooke added.  “He shows a lot of fight and I quite like him.”
