Congrats filly favoured at Churchill Downs

Congrats filly Turbulent Descent will start the shortest priced favourite during the 15-race Breeders’ Cup card at Churchill Downs.

Turbulent Descent has opened a $2.20 favourite for the G1 Filly and Mare Sprint on Friday.  The Mike Puype trained filly will be ridden by David Flores and will jump from barrier 3.  “I’ve got no problem with the 3 at all,” Puype said.  “She’s the kind of horse who wants to get right to the rail and get to running.  We’re good.”

Turbulent Descent (3f Congrats – Roger’s Sue by Forestry) cost $160,000 at the Ocala Breeders 2YO Sale in April 2010.  She has won 6 of 8 starts including G1 victories in the Hollywood Starlet, Santa Anita Oaks and a four length victory in the Test Stakes (1400m) at Saratoga in August.

Turbulent Descent left California last Sunday and schooled at Churchill Downs on Wednesday.

Owned by the Blinkers On syndicate that consists of 12 partners, Turbulent Descent was entered for the Fasig-Tipton Sale in Lexington on Sunday but has been withdrawn.

“Ultimately, she will sell at auction as a means of liquidating her value for the partners,” Puype said.  “But they’re planning on running next year, too.  There’s a lot of Group 1 races out there for her.”

Congrats (A P Indy) won the 2010 North American first-season sires’ premiership with 25 individual winners for earnings of $1.66 million.  He’s currently serving his first southern book at Vinery.
