Commands in contention for Karaka Million

Darley sire Commands has two youngsters in contention for the NZ Bloodstock Karaka Million after Minaj (NZ) won at Mornington on Wednesday.

Minaj (2f Commands – Ms Seneca Rock by Seneca Jones) is trained by Anthony Freedman for Peter Carrick’s Lakeview Resources.  The filly was a $130,000 buy from Wentwood Grange at the 2012 NZB Karaka Premier Sale.

Minaj showed that she has plenty of ability with a smart debut performance at Mornington, taking the lead in the small field and cruising to an easy two length victory.

Freedman prepared 2012 Karaka Million winner Ockham’s Razor (Any Suggestion) and he said there’s a strong possibility Minaj will follow the same program having one more start in Australia before crossing the Tasman for the $1 million race.

She is the first foal of USA bred mare Ms Seneca Rock who was a Listed winner of the Valor Farm Stakes at Lone Star Park in Texas.

Minaj joins the Jason Bridgman trained colt Catalonia (Commands) on the Karaka Million trail after he won the LR Wentwood Grange Stakes at Te Rapa on Saturday.

The Karaka Million Order of Entry will see plenty of activity over the Christmas and New Year period with five two-year-old races – including the $70,000 G3 Eclipse Stakes at Ellerslie.
