Come in Spinner

Well-bred three-year-old Head Spinner made amends for an out of character effort in Launceston recently with an emphatic win at Devonport on Sunday.

Head Spinner (3g El Maggiore – Show Princess by Umatilla) surged clear at Tapeta Park to win the Boxing Day Sheffield Cup Maiden (1150m) by half a length.

At his previous start, Head Spinner finished well own the track at Launceston on a heavy surface.  Happily for owner-trainer Leanne Gaffney, he lived up to expectations back on an even synthetic.

Top jockey Stephen Maskiell had Head Spinner settled third and travelling well behind tearaway leaders Dr Kempinsky and Nerak.

When called on for an effort, Head Spinner defeated Nerak by a half-length.  It was his first win but according to Gaffney it won’t be his last.

Head Spinner’s sire El Maggiore (El Prado) stands alongside Azevedo (Helissio) at Bowthorpe Stud in Tasmania.
