Cheveley Park buys Equiano filly for AUD 302,710

Equiano (Fr) finished in the Top 3 for first-season sires during Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale this week with an average of 130,000 guineas.

The Swettenham Stud shuttler ended the week right behind Lope De Vega (Shamardal) and Zebedee (Invincible Spirit) among stallions with their initial crop on offer at Europe’s premier yearling sale.

The Equiano – Mail The Desert (Desert Prince) colt was a positive pointer on Day 1 when making 140,000 guineas but that price was eclipsed when his filly from Lacework (Pivotal) was purchased by Cheveley Park Stud for 170,000 guineas (AUD 302,710) during Day 3 trade on Thursday.

Offered by Equiano’s home-base Newsells Park, the filly is a half-sister to LR Marygate Stakes winner Miss Work Of Art (Dutch Art) and this year’s  G3 Musidora Stakes runner-up Romantic Settings (Mount Nelson).

“The Equiano – Lacework filly is bred to be fast and early,” Newsells Park general manager Julian Dollar predicted.  “And she has all the right physical attributes to match!”

Her buyer Cheveley Park Stud is renowned as one of the most successful thoroughbred horse farms in Europe.  The Newmarket nursery has just signed record-breaking G1 July Cup winner Lethal Force for its roster in 2014.  His sire Dark Angel and Equiano are both sons of Acclamation.

Newsells Park finished Book 1 at Tattersalls as the leading vendor with 16 lots changing hands for 7.21 million guineas.  Topping its leader-board was a 3.60 million guineas Galileo brother to Secret Gesture who was placed in the English, German and Yorkshire Oaks earlier this year.

Newsells Park also sold an Oasis Dream half-brother to Equiano for 220,000 guineas.

Equiano has another 21 yearlings on offer during Tattersalls Book 2 starting next Monday, October 14.

Equiano is currently covering a third southern book at Swettenham for a $16,500 fee.  Broodmare owners can contact Adam Sangster (0418 543 633) or Chris Belli (0417 514 552) for further information on Swettenham’s stallions.
