Change of scenery for Marsh Side

North American G1 winner Marsh Side has been retired and will stand the 2011 season at Silvernails Farm in upstate New York.

Marsh Side (Gone West – Colonial Play by Pleasant Colony) is a brother-in-blood to first-season Australian sire Changeintheweather who has been popular with broodmare owners at Merlo Downs in Queensland.

Marsh Side was trained by Neil Drysdale in California and was a G1 winner of the 2008 Canadian International and 2009 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes.  He was also runner-up to Eclipse Award winner Gio Ponti (Tale of the Cat) in the G1 Manhattan Hcp at Belmont Park last year.

Marsh Side retires with a 31: 7-3-1 record and $2.36 million in earnings.  His dam Colonial Play (Pleasant Colony) is a sister to G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Pleasant Stage as well as multiple Grade 3 winner Stage Colony.

Colonial Play is also full sister to the dam of Changeintheweather (Gone West).  He has now sired 50 individual winners of 149 races in his first three northern crops at a 66% strike-rate.  He stands at Merlo Down alongside Afleetaffair (Afleet) and Pembroke (Gone West).

Marsh Side and Changeintheweather are from the immediate family of G1 winners A Phenomenon (Tentam), Seattle Meteor (Seattle Slew), Roanoke (Pleasant Colony), Pillaster (Riverman) and Class Play (Stage Door Johnny).
