Century of stakes winners by Monsun

Champion Germany sire Monsun reached the 100 stakes winner milestone when Novellist won a G3 in Frankfurt on Sunday.

Novellist (3c Monsun – Night Lagoon by Lagunas) is a homebred for Dr Christoph Berglar and was a runaway winner of the G3 Stadtrat Albert Von Metzler Rennen (2000m).  He scored by six lengths as the even-money favourite from All Shamar (Shamardal) and Mano Diao (Authorized)..

Trainer Andreas Wohler won his third German Derby with Waldpark (Dubawi) last year and he will be double handed with Novellist and last start Hannover stakes winner Black Arrow (Teofilo) in 2012.

“Novellist is definitely well up to the standard of my best three-year-olds,” Wohler said.  “Novellist and Black Arrow are totally different types and they will have one more trial before the Derby.”

Two hours after Novellist topped the ton for Monsun, the champion sire made it 101 stakes winners when Sheikh Mohammed’s filly Kailani scored a seven length victory in the LR Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket.

Kailani (3f Monsun – Kazzia by Zinaad) is a Darley homebred and she will be supplemented for the English Oaks after making short work of her rivals on Sunday.  Her dam Kazzia won the 2002 English 1000 Guineas – English Derby double and her first foal Eastern Anthem (Singspiel) was a G1 winner of the 2009 Dubai Sheema Classic.

Monsun (Konigsstuhl) stands at Gestut Schlenderhan and is best known as the sire of Stacelita and Shirocco.

Stacelita was a classic winner of the 2009 French Oaks prior to garnering G1 wins in the Beverly D. Stakes and Flower Bowl Invitational in the USA last year.  Shirocco claimed the 2004 German Derby and kept progressing for G1 triumphs in the 2005 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Belmont Park and 2006 Coronation Cup at Epsom Downs.
