Mungrup Stud sire Oratorio (Aus) strengthened his claims for the Perth Magic Millions 2YO Classic when Cadenza drew perfectly for Saturday’s $250,000 feature race at Ascot.
Cadenza (2f Oratorio – Lady Mambo by Seignorial) burst into calculations for the sales-related sprint with a superb debut in the Silver Signature Plate (1200m) last weekend. The Dan Morton trained filly motored home to defeat Versed Remedy (Universal Ruler) by a long neck.
Morton will be gunning for a second Magic Millions Classic in a row after his Exceed And Excel filly Camporella chimed in twelve months ago. He also has Amachisit (Charge Forward) engaged this year.
“That was a real impressive effort,” Morton said as Cadenza returned to scale. “We only gave her one trial and didn’t knock her around. She was the least experienced runner out there today but she let down like a professional filly.”
Oratorio’s unbeaten youngster Palace Intruder will start one of the favourites for the Magic Millions Classic. Unfortunately, he will jump from 14 while Cadenza drew 3.
Cadenza is raced in partnership by Mungrup owners Gray and Jan Williamson along with Fred Fairthorne who was also in Morton’s Group 1 winners Scenic Blast and Scenic Shot.
The Williamsons stand Oratorio but Cadenza wasn’t raised at their Great Southern nursery. De Grey Stud owner Dick Vincent bred and sold her for $60,000 at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions.
Vincent is a veteran of more yearling sales than any other vendor at the Perth Magic Millions. He has been selling on and off since 1953 and his best graduate has been Barely A Moment in the class of 2003.
David Hayes took Barely A Moment back home to Lindsay Park for $58,000 and he went on to win three Group 1 events in Melbourne and over $1.29 million in prizemoney.
Vincent is putting the finishing touches on another 6 yearlings for next week’s Perth Magic Millions including a War Chant half-brother to Cadenza (Lot 92). Their dam Lady Mambo is a half-sister to Barely A Moment.
