Busy Weekend for Mungrup at Perth Magic Millions

Mungrup Stud and its clients have catalogued 20 yearlings for the Perth Magic Millions Winter Sale this Sunday including five colts and a filly by Danehill Express.

The Danehill Express – Umashadow colt (Lot 9) is rated one the highlights by Mungrup’s Ann Croucher.  A powerfully built youngster, he was passed in at the Magic Millions in February and has been allowed to keep developing before being re-offered.  That should work in his favour this weekend.

He is a younger half-brother Weekend Shadow (Bernardini) who won on debut at Ascot over the Anzac Day long weekend.  The Neville Parnham trained colt has already paid his way after changing hands for $40,000 at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions.

Danehill Express is emerging as one of our most promising young stallions with 32 individual winners in his first two crops headed by Ascot stakes winner Express Service.  And that success isn’t confined to Western Australia.  He’s right on the heels of Magnus and Casino Prince in third place on the national second-season winners’ premiership.

His Victorian based gelding Gold Rory will resume work next month after being sidelined with chipped knees since last September.  Trainer Mark Riley was going to set him for the G1 Coolmore Stakes after a sensational debut at Mornington but he was injured second-up at Moonee Valley.

Mungrup’s Oratorio – Kenkala (76) and Due Sasso – Quested Queen (108) colts are also among the best on type at the Perth Winter yearling sale.  “They’re well-built with great hindquarters,” Croucher said.  “And they both appear to be early maturing types.”

Oratorio (Aus) is home-and-hosed for his third Sunspeed 2YO premiership this season.  His Lark Hill based gelding Ignition added the finishing touches to the title with a running double at Belmont in May.

The Due Sasso colt is a half-brother to Oratorio winners Lost Opera and Poppies For Spring.  Mungrup’s Vital Equine – Storm Twister colt (Lot 132) is another well made yearling with plenty of scope.

The Mungrup yearlings are stabled in Rows V, W & X at the Belmont Park sales complex.
