Boomer Flat Out at Saratoga Sale

Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) agent Craig Rounsefell parted with $150,000 for a first-crop colt by Flat Out (USA) at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale on Monday.

Rounsefell had to wait until the last lot of the evening session to buy the February-foaled colt from Prall Street (Cherokee Run).  He will be trained by in-form New York-based Tom Morley.

The colt’s older half-brother Rattlesnake Bridge (Tapit) won a Monmouth Park stakes race and was runner-up to Stay Thirsty in the 2011 G1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga.

Flat Out (Flatter) was a multiple Group 1 winner in New York and he represents the A P Indy sireline at Spendthrift Farm.   “This is one tough horse,” trainer Bill Mott said after a Group 1 winning farewell in the Cigar Mile.  “He’s so honest and genuine.”

Rounsefell was a west coast winner on Saturday when British import Hay Dude dictated over 1700m on turf at Del Mar.  It was his third win in the USA.  Rounsefell bought the Dubawi gelding for high-profile clients Joseph Scardino & Anthony Fanticola after stakes placings at Haydock and Maisons-Laffitte.

Back home, Rounsefell’s decision to pay $180,000 for a Not A Single Doubt yearling at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale is paying off big time in Perth.

Named Scales of Justice, he has won 4 times in 8 starts for Boomer clients Chris Wells and Bill Andrews and the owners have just knocked back a significant offer from Hong Kong.  His latest campaign ended due to an infected hoof just prior to the LR Belmont Guineas.

“He’s had a few weeks off and is looking good,” trainer Lindsey Smith said. “He’s a beautiful horse and he will still be here as a five and six year-old winning races up to 2000m.”
