Blueblood winner for Makybe

Team Hawkes believes there’s more wins in store for blueblood Makybe mare La Amistad.

La Amistad (4m Redoute’s Choice – Tugela by Riverman) is a younger half-sister to Makybe Diva and she broke through for a three length victory in the Tracy The Placement People Maiden (2200m) at Ballarat last Thursday.

“She’s just a baby but she’s going somewhere,” co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said.  “We went to Ballarat just to get a score on the board.  She is still 12 months away from being at her best.”

Tugela (Riverman) has been an outstanding producer of black type performers for Makybe owner Tony Santic.  Besides Makybe Diva, her other foals include Valkyrie Diva (Jade Robbery), Musket (Redoute’s Choice) and Shadowofexcellence (Redoute’s Choice).

Her 3yo Rodway (Street Cry) was a $1.20 million buy for Peter Moody at the 2012 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  He finished just behind the placegetters second-time out at Seymour in September.

Tugela has a yearling full sister to Makybe Diva by Desert King.  It was the first time she had visited the Bombora Downs sire since 1998.  That was the mating which produced the Melbourne Cup legend who won 15 races and over $14.50 million in stakes.
