Ningaloo Blitz benefited from a bold mid-race move by Jerry Noske to win the $100,000 Albany Cup (2100m) on Sunday.

Set alight down the back straight, she was still well clear approaching the home turn and had a length left in the locker to deny the fast-finishing stablemates Ram Jam and Ora Dare.

The Dan Morton trained mare has been a tremendous money-spinner for connections but she started a $26 outsider on Sunday after a long run of outs.  The last time she saluted was in the Kalgoorlie Stayers Final (2200m) in July.

“It was a huge thrill to win the Cup,” Morton said.  “The owners come from all over Australia and all walks of life.  Thanks to everyone who helped out – racing is full of great people who always go the extra yard.”

Morton’s cousin Aaron Morton bred the mare at Queenslea Park in Pingelly and manages the syndicate that has raced her to 10 wins and $235,000 in prizemoney.

Ningaloo Blitz (6m Natural Blitz – Elzahoney by El Moxie) is a younger half-sister to two minor winners by Ihtiram.  Their dam was pensioned after foaling a Frost Giant filly last November.

Her sire Natural Blitz (Dehere) stands at Mogumber Park and he will joined at the Bullsbrook nursery by Darley stakes winner Safeguard (Exceed And Excel) this year.
