Kambula Stud’s Toole family has announced the death of leading South Australian sire Blevic.
The Stud’s website revealed Blevic was put down after complications following colic surgery. The 20 year-old stallion had been a resident of the Kadina based nursery since 1996.
Blevic (Scenic – Blooms by Biscay) was part-owned and trained by Colin Hayes for Swettenham Stud’s Robert Sangster to win the 1994 Victoria Derby. He had claimed another Group 1 earlier that year at Flemington in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.
He covered 16 books at Kambula for 331 winners of 1067 races at a 59% strike-rate. There have been 24 stakes winners to date topped by 2002 G1 WA Fruit ‘N’ Veg Stakes winner Blevvo.
Blevic’s daughters have foaled G1 Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready and star stayer Alcopop.
