Black-type double for God’s Own

Redoute’s Choice stallion God’s Own sired his first stakes winner at Caulfield on Saturday and he added more black-type half an hour later at Morphettville.

A G1 winner of the 2005 Caulfield Guineas, God’s Own stands at Victoria’s Eliza Park in conjunction with Yallambee Stud.  He had sired 60 individual winners in his first two crops before breaking through at black-type level.

Utah Saints (4g God’s Own – Hard Rider by Maroof) completed a winning hat-trick for trainers Mat Ellerton and Simon Zahra in the LR Pink Ribbon Cup at Caulfield.  He had been knocking on the door of black type success since August last year having been placed in Listed events at Caulfield, Flemington and Moonee Valley.

All up, Utah Saints has now won 5 races from just 22 starts with over $300,000 in the bank after being sold by Yallambee Stud for $150,000 at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Balzeus made it a two-state stakes-double when Balzeus scored a thrilling victory in the LR Nitschke Stakes at Morphettville.  Only lightly raced, the Terry and Karina O’Sullivan trained gelding ranged up to reel in Riziz on the line.

Balzeus (3g God’s Own – Balmaria by Balmerino) was purchased for $22,000 by Terry O’Sullivan from the Ealing Park draft at the 2010 Inglis Melbourne Autumn yearling sale.  His dam Balmaria won 11 races and is a half sister to multiple stakes winner Figure of Speech.

God’s Own retired to stud for a $33,000 (inc gst) fee in 2006.  The cost of his services this year are priced on application.
