Black-type Belle for Starcraft

Rosemont Stud’s ever-reliable resident Starcraft (NZ) has unearthed another filly bound for black-type in New Zealand.

Beginning her career impressively, Starvoia sat outside the lead and was too strong in the straight to win the Echoes Of Heaven 3YO (1200m) at Riccarton on Saturday.  “She had done well at the trials so expectations were high,” trainer Karen Parsons said.  “We were concerned about the Heavy 10 but took the punt and she did extra well.

“She had been entered for the Karaka Sales but cut her fetlock and had to be withdrawn,” Parsons recalled.  “She was a lovely filly and I bought her out of a paddock with a colt by Anacheeva.”

Starvoia will now be set for the LR Canterbury Belle Stakes (1200m) back at Riccarton on September 17.  Her dam Savoia (Charge Forward) is a daughter of Group 1 South Australian Oaks winner Dowry.

Starcraft (Soviet Star) arrived at Gnarwarre in 2014 and his first Victorian-bred yearlings will be catalogued for the 2017 Melbourne Premier.  “He’s getting lots of winners and bookings have been good for all three of our stallions,” Rosemont manager Justin McCusker said.  “Starcraft is standing for a $6,600 (inc gst) service fee.”

His Rosemont associates Toorak Toff and Nostradamus are both priced at $8,800 (inc gst).
