Bite the Bullet dies at Bengalla Stud

Veteran sire Bite the Bullet has passed away aged 26 at Bengalla Stud in the Hunter Valley.

Bite the Bullet (USA) was imported in 1992 by the late Albert O’Cass as a foundation sire for Kingmaker Park near Scone.  He had a brief stint at Baramul Stud before a final transfer to Bengalla, a Muswellbrook stud operated by Michael Fitzgerald.  There have been 279 winners of 1169 races to date at a 68% strike rate.

The $2.61 million earner Sniper’s Bullet heads his list of 19 stakes winners with G1 victories in the Railway Stakes, Stradbroke Handicap and Kingston Town Classic.  Another millionaire – The Jackal – was a G3 winner in Sydney and Melbourne.

Bite the Bullet (Spectacular Bid – Lassie’s Lady by Alydar) was a G2 winner of the 1989 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga.  His sire Spectacular Bid won 26 races including the 1979 Kentucky Derby and the immediate family is full of successful stallions – Lassie’s Lady is a half-sister to the dam A P Indy.
