The half-sister to Group 1 winning colt Choice Bro will be one of the stars of the Yarradale Stud yearling sale this Sunday.
Catalogued as Lot 11, the filly is by Darley’s international phenomenon Dubawi and her dam Ladidi has foaled four winners topped by Kiwi youngster Choice Bro.
Choice Bro (2c Chosir – Ladidi by Palace Music) is in Brisbane heading for the G1 T J Smith (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 9. He earned a trip across the Tasman after winning the G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Awapuni in March.
The John Sargent trained colt motored home from midfield to collar G1 Diamond Stakes winner Warhorse (General Nediym) at Awapuni. He then held off a late challenge from stablemate Magic Shaft (Shaft) to score by a short-neck.
“We were confident going into the race,” Sargent said. “He’s a bull of a colt and is very strong. He will be well suited over a mile in the T J Smith Stakes. To win another Group 1 in Australia will be enormously important to his future value as a stallion.”
Choice Bro was straight out of the blocks earlier this season winning the Countdown to the Karaka Million at Ellerslie in December before running a good fourth to Ockham’s Razor in the $1 million Karaka Million.
He turned the tables on the Karaka Million winner next time out in the G3 Taranaki 2YO Classic at Pukekura before a luckless run behind Warhorse in the G1 Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie leading into the G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes.
Sargent has him on course for the T J Smith after finishing an encouraging fourth behind Noogoora Burr in the LR Hampden Stakes at Doomben last Saturday.
Choice Bro and his younger half-sister at the Yarradale Sale are from a Swettenham Stud family going back to Robert Sangster’s champion mare Pure Of Heart.
