Premier Brisbane trainer Rob Heathcote was delighted to watch Fillydelphia rediscover her best form in the Desiree Gill Memorial (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
“It’s nice to have her back,” Heathcote said after the Bianconi mare took a rails run to score by three lengths under apprentice Aiden Holt. “She was poked in the eye by a grass stalk and developed an ulcer.”
Fillydelphia (6m Bianconi – Edel Vanessa by Encosta De Lago) has been consistent galloper throughout her 35 start career winning 10 races headed by the G3 Rough Habit Plate (2020m) and LR Brisbane Handicap (1600m).
After recovering from that serious setback in the winter months, Fillydelphia was taken to Sydney but disappointed in the G3 Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill in September. “There was no point persevering down there so we brought her home,” Heathcote said. “She’s been runner-up in the last two Bernborough Handicaps and that our aim again.”
The LR Bernborough Hcp is traditionally run at Doomben but the next edition on New Year’s Eve will help launch the new grass track at Toowoomba.
Fillydelphia has won races as a two, three, four, five and six year-old and has earned $499,600 for her part-owner and breeder Frank Wolber. Her dam Edel Vanessa has an unnamed 2yo colt by Bianconi who stands for a $3,300 (inc gst) fee at Swettenham Stud.
