Belated black-type for Handsome Ransom

Handsome Ransom sired his first stakes winner when Rememba Howe finished strongly in the Listed Fordell O’Leary’s Fillies Stakes at Wanganui on Saturday.

Rememba Howe (3f Handsome Ransom – Yachting Magic by Yachtie) is prepared by Evan Rayner and she scored by more than a length from Elle Tresor (Le Bec Fin).  The locally trained filly was overdue after previous placings behind classy youngsters Kallisan (Stratum) and Starcheeka (Starcraft).

Handsome Ransom’s oldest are four year-olds and they are taking time to get into the winning groove.  The NZ Stud Book reports there were 128 foals from his first two crops conceived at Ashwell Farm and only 17 of them have won races.

He transferred to Wellfield Lodge in 2007 and has been given every chance with another 202 foals in his first two seasons at the Palmerston North nursery.

Handsome Ransom (Red Ransom) was a precocious youngster defeating Exceed and Excel in the G3 Black Opal Stakes.  He returned at three and was runner-up to subsequent G1 Caulfield Guineas winner In Top Swing in the inaugural Golden Rose.  He also finished third in the G2 Hobartville Stakes behind Impaler.

He stands for a $4,000 service fee at Wellfield Lodge which is also home to trans-Tasman G1 winner Alamosa (O’Reilly).
