Aquanita trainer Simon Miller admits it took a while to work out Wednesday’s Belmont winner Bangkok Express.

The Danehill Express gelding took 10 starts to break his maiden but is now on cusp of a successful career as a new-season four year-old.  “I said six months ago he was good but it’s taken me that long to figure out he’s just a 1000 metre horse,” Miller said after the TAB Touch Hcp.  “He’s got a nice turn of foot and is building a good record at the distance.”

Bangkok Express (4g Danehill Express – Ishibabe by Ishiguru) won a Northam maiden in July and was unlucky when beaten a neck by Supposition at Belmont last week after he laid in down the straight.

“We don’t have to do much with him at home,” Miller explained.  “And backing up after seven days was no problem.”

The winner is a homebred for Geisel Park owner-breeder Eddie Rigg and is the first foal of NZ bred Ishibabe who earned black-type in the 2008 Gimcrack Stakes at Ascot.  The mare has an unraced 3yo filly named Mishkebab (Musket) with Brett Pope at Pinjarra and a yearling colt by Domesday.

Danehill Express has started the new season with 5 winners in as many days and Danreign can keep him the winning run rolling in a feature sprint on the Broome Cup card this Saturday.

Mungrup Stud will stand Danehill Express for a $5,500 (inc gst) service fee this year.
